Independent brand auto parts suppliers are working hard to overcome the technical challenges of automatic transmission assembly and are struggling along the path of industrialization. Against the backdrop of needing industry support the most, the International Seminar on the Industrialization of Automatic Transmissions in China and the Development Forum of China's Gear Transmission Industry were held in Wuxi, Jiangsu, from August 11 to 12. This conference conveyed positive signals: all parties are taking action in their own ways to support the industrialization of independent automatic transmission.

Independent brand auto parts suppliers are fighting hard, breaking through the technical difficulties of automotive automatic transmission assembly, and are struggling on the road to industrialization. Against the backdrop of needing industry support the most, from August 11 to 12, the International Seminar on the Industrialization of China's Automotive Automatic Transmission and the Development Forum of China's Gear Transmission Industry was held in Wuxi, Jiangsu. This conference revealed positive signals: all parties are taking action in their own ways to support the development of the independent automatic transmission industrialization.

  The driving role of independent vehicle manufacturers is significant.

Without the drive of independent vehicle manufacturers, the industrialization of China's automatic transmission would inevitably face difficulties.

In recent years, the overall sales of automatic transmission vehicles from independent brand car companies have been growing rapidly at a rate of 10% annually. This provides industrialization space for independent automatic transmissions. The progress made by suppliers is precisely due to the drive of independent vehicle manufacturers.

Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd. has relied on an international talent team to break through the DCT assembly technology difficulties in three and a half years. Since its market launch over a year ago, this product has been equipped in Great Wall WEY vehicles, achieving a cumulative sales performance of 400,000 units. Currently, Great Wall is further optimizing the development of the second generation DCT and efficient powertrains to meet the needs of new energy vehicles.

Zhejiang Wanliyang Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Wanliyang") is focusing on CVT and AT technology routes for the development of automatic transmissions, successfully developing CVT25 and 6AT while simultaneously developing hybrid automatic transmission products.

Wanliyang's CVT and AT currently have strategic customers such as Geely and Chery among independent vehicle manufacturers. "Currently, more than 10 models from 3 independent vehicle manufacturers are equipped with Wanliyang CVT19 and sold in the market, while more than 10 models from 4 independent vehicle manufacturers equipped with Wanliyang CVT25 are undergoing rigorous durability testing and summer calibration preparations, and 6 models from 3 independent vehicle manufacturers are in technical docking with Wanliyang CVT25," said Wanliyang President Gu Yongting at the conference.

It is precisely because of having strategic customers like Geely and Chery that Wanliyang has the confidence to accelerate the industrialization progress of automatic transmissions. According to the plan, from 2017 to 2019, Wanliyang's CVT sales will reach 500,000 units; 900,000 units in 2020; and 1.4 million units in 2021, with AT and EDS (electronic differential lock) sales reaching 600,000 units.

Shengrui Transmission Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Shengrui") has 8AT customers including Landwind, FAW, Hanteng, Jinbei, Baojun, BAIC Yinxiang, Lifan, Chery, and Yema, all of which are independent brand car companies. Among them, Shengrui's 8AT has been mass-produced and supplied to 9 models from 4 independent vehicle manufacturers, with a cumulative production and sales of 180,000 units.

With the drive of independent vehicle manufacturers, Shengrui's automatic transmissions have developed rapidly. Shengrui's Deputy General Manager Chen Peng introduced at the conference: "We have formed six major product series: 8-speed automatic transmission (front-wheel drive), 8-speed automatic transmission (four-wheel drive), 8-speed automatic transmission (start-stop), 8-speed hybrid automatic transmission, 6-speed hybrid automatic transmission, and 13-speed automatic transmission (front-wheel drive)."

With the drive of independent vehicle manufacturers, Shengrui also has the confidence to formulate the following plans: In the second half of 2018, 8AT will support 7 vehicle manufacturers with 9 new models; the third generation 8AT will adopt a series of advanced technologies and go into production in October this year; the fourth generation 8AT will replace the hydraulic torque converter with a torsional damper and go into production in June 2020; 8HT (8-speed hybrid automatic transmission) will go into production in December 2019, and 6HT will go into production in June 2020; the vertical development strategy is to achieve platformization from 8AT to 13AT, from 6HT to 8HT, and from reducer to electric drive system; the horizontal development strategy is to achieve a development plan for automatic transmission products from 200N·m to 1000N·m, from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive, and from front-mounted to longitudinally mounted, to meet the multi-level market demand. It is reported that Shengrui has formed an annual production capacity of 250,000 units of 8AT and is building a production capacity of 300,000 units of 8AT, with plans to build a production capacity of 500,000 units of 8AT.

The industrialization situation of automatic transmissions from Great Wall, Shengrui, and Wanliyang indicates that with the support of independent vehicle manufacturers, the industrialization of independent automatic transmissions has a promising future.

The company is based on "specialization and innovation" (specialization, boutique, characteristic, novel), focusing on the research and development, design, production and sales of automobile automatic transmission clutch hub and parts. The company has invested nearly 0.5 billion yuan and introduced nearly 100 sets (sets) of professional production and supporting equipment from the world. It has become one of the enterprises in the domestic gear hub industry with excellent equipment, complete configuration, strong R & D capability, numerous developed products and large production capacity, and has formed an annual production capacity of 4 million pieces (sets).

The company broke the situation that the core components of the automatic transmission gear hub have been monopolized by European and American multinational enterprises, boosted the localization process of automatic transmissions of domestic independent brand automobile enterprises, and led the new era of "intelligent manufacturing in China" of the core components of the automatic transmission gear hub.
